HELLO! I'M HERE TO BLOG TO MAKE OUR POSTS 30!!

During the video screening day, I was really anxious. Anxious after we saw the first group's video (Xian Ming, Faizal and Kim Luk). I felt that theirs was... too nice. OWN! Then I thought to myself, "Shit man ours not much effects... will others think it's bad?" (Yeah I'm a paranoid kid)

I was also anxious because Yoke Ee's class videos will actually be played first but ONG MING HAN was apparently sleeping and woke up late. Haha.

But when others told me that they think my group video was good, I was really touched and happy. That made me feel relieve that our hardwork paid off!

Well, really want to thank my dear group members, Ming Han and Syuhada! Just want to thank you guys for everything you've contributed during this tough period of MOI P1.

I'm really really glad that I was able to enjoy this experience with you all. I believe many other groups had conflicts during their P1, but I'm glad that we do not face such problems and situations except for some minor clashing ideas? But we always work something out of it. I feel that this is what's most important when working in a group, team spirit!

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. Oh yes and sorry for being paranoid and worrying about this and that. I guess it's probably cause it's MOI P1 and I was being a perfectionist or something. Cause I wanna move on to year 2 and I was scared we would fail! (see, paranoid kid)

P.S. Watching the video again, I actually feel that our video is actually nice and interesting! I finally understand that you don't need good and nice effects to produce a good video.

Above all, I especially wanna thank Yoke Ee for revising such a wonderful script for us! Without your help, our video would not have been what it is. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Even though everyone is happy that MOI P1 is over, I actually feel quite... um how do you say, a little sad probably? Okay not exactly SAD SAD, but sad in a sense I will really miss working with you guys!

Sometimes I feel that it's good to work with other people and not your close friends (I didn't know Ming Han and Syuhada well at first) because that's when we can really voice out our opinions and stuff like that. Seriously. Okay maybe it's just me but when I'm working with my close friends, I won't really dare to voice out or say anything if I disagree or if I have another idea...etc. cause I'm afraid we would have disputes and quarrels since we're all so close and stuff, you get the drift? Haha hence, yes, working with them was really an enjoyable experience (I'm sorry if I repeated this a hell lot of times), but it's a fact! It has brought us closer together and we got to know one another better.

I finally realized that Ming Han is a nice guy (I used to be scared of him, HAHA) but sometimes quite fierce. Haha JK!
and Syuhada isn't all that quiet actually. "Eh tomorrow I will have stomachache. I predict I will have fever." That's what she told us the day before the screening of MOI videos. Haha, she's damn cute. But she came to school in the end. (:

Whoa this is quite a long post, but yea, it's worth it since it marks the end of our journey here in MOI p1.

Ending off, it's me! Cheryl, on behalf of WHYWESAMEGROUP for this REAL FINAL post on this blog.

HUAT AR P1 LIAO LIAO!

Sorry for the Hokkien title but I can't help it but feel happy that P1 is over and most of all, everyone did well!

Dear Cheryl and Syuhada,

Hell of a ride right? From Third age to individual ideas to Interim 1 to Interim 2 we spent a truckload of time in the Maclab using Macs(I hate Mac) to do editing and research. It was good experience, I could feel the rush as the deadline drew nearer.

Very sorry for being late for group meetings 100% of the time. I feel that I didn't really do much, all I did was being the cameraman and the rest is just eye power.

It was fun working with both of you even though sometimes our ideas clashed. I have to thank Syuhada because she brought home the [vulgarity here] heavy tripod for about 4 days straight and she is such a pro at Final Cut pro. I have to thank Cheryl because she got her wonderful couple friends, Aaron and Julia, to act for us and everything turned out well. Am very glad that the screening of our film went smoothly even though I was not present when it played HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Happy Holidays Moving Images!

The Most Outstanding Intern(JK!),
Ming Han, on behalf of WHYWESAMEGROUP for this final post on this blog.

Damn it, 1 more post to 30 posts.
we were really amazed by other groups video. they put in nice effects and animation. Our video is simple and did not have any effects at all except for the transitions. But, we were glad that the video can be played even though its quite uncomfortable that the whole moi watched it, we were really happy with our work being screened.

P1 taught us to plan our time because of the time clashed with another module. Even though we have different personalities, we managed to work well together. We had alot of fun doing the video and enjoyed it very much .

March 26, 2009

I felt a crazy sense of relief when we submitted our DVD on time. It was a feeling you cannot describe, I didn't even try to run so hard for my 2.4KM run in secondary school.

Today we met in school earlier at about 10.30am to finalize our film. We added in some music which we felt it made our film hilarious and we hope our audiences tomorrow will feel the same too.

The stupid DVD almost gave me a heart attack because it won't record our film initially on 3 PC/MAC. Johanson saved our day by lending us his laptop and we managed to burn everything and hand in by 3pm sharp. Thank you very much Johanson :)

P1 is fun, very fun.

FINALLY OVER

So glad its over after all the hard work. The burden on our shoulders were lifted instantly after submitting the DVD.

We came to school in the morning to add in the music (
unsure of what music would suit the video)and did a final check on everything before exporting to Quicktime. But,we forgot to credit the music.

Nearly submit the video late because the DVD (very special got "+") cannot be burn using the Mac,then we went to the 3D Lab to try burn again but cannot.Luckily,Johanson save us by lending his laptop that have the burning sofware. We ran to Yoke Ee's office and managed to catch her in time.

When i watched the video again, some parts look different than the one when we edited- got some overexpose and not so clear parts. But, i think its ok ah since we cannot take back the DVD to re-edit.

Overall,we had a lot of fun shooting and editing the video. The main thing is to have lots and lots of fun in the process.

March 25th, 2009

Today I went back for Design History and Culture presentation. Good thing it ended before 6 and I had more time to work on P1. Derick from year 2 MOI helped us with recording all the voice overs in the audio room, and I want to thank him here for helping us. Today he helped us again with the voice over and Final Cut Pro in the Mac lab. As Chery and I are having Design History and Culture at 3pm, Syuhada was working hard in the Mac lab trying to figure out what music should we use for our video. After Cheryl and I finished DH&C we went to help Syuahda out at the Mac lab. We decided on what music we should use for our video and tomorrow we will be rendering and exporting our video. Hopefully everything turns out well and we can submit on time at 3pm.

finally, completed shooting!we will transfer the footages tmrw because the hereafter was already closed when we finished.we are probably about more than 1/2 -done with the editing.today we did the colour corrector thingy and some effects. the voice over was already put in but it got overwritten during the process so tmrw we will put it back again.
-left with adding the new footages, some music and of course, credits.

editing is actually fun but its quite tiring and can be irritating too.so,we need to focus and do our best to complete everything before the due date.

Saturday, March 21, 2009

We met up to edit again today.

We have cut and arranged our footages/scenes in order, but without the voice-over (Minghan forgot to bring his thumbdrive and it was raining so heavily that he could not go back to take it!), it was hard to predict how short/long each scene will be.

So far, our whole video is 13 minutes long without the intro, outro and credits! 2 of our front scenes had accidentally been overwrite and we were supposed to film them today but apparently, the casts couldn't make it. Hence, we have to wait till monday.

We are left with the voice-over, the editing of colour and lighting of each scene, the effects for the transition (fade in, fade out...etc) of each scene, the intro, outro, credits and CD cover.

That. Is. ALOT.

Time is seriously running out, I suddenly feel so scared. I'm really afraid we won't be able to finish on time (because Minghan and I still have DESIGN HISTORY AND CULTURE).

Tomorrow's a sunday. We were planning to meet actually, but apparently the security guard said the school would be CLOSED. Another day wasted.

I think... we are going to have sleepless nights for the next 3 days after tomorrow.

march 20th

Today we started editing our footage with Final Cut Pro. It was something new for me as I did not pay attention during Video Fundamentals when Yoke Ee taught us how to use it. We still have 2 shots not done because the talents are currently unavailable. They should be free on Monday and we will shoot the final 2 then. We will also continue editing on Monday after getting the 2 shots done. It will be quick because we don't have much effects or animation in our video.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

It was a rather tiring day today. Ming han and I had H&C presentation on SINCITY and then we carried on with our filming after our lesson.

Filmed the "school scenes" in school and then we headed to my house to film the "home scenes". Initially, James and my friend (either one of them) were supposed to be one of the casts (the role of the 'Father'), but James suddenly had re-shooting to do and my friend all of a sudden couldn't make it too! Luckily, we found Wen Jun who was free! Thank you so much Wen Jun if not we wouldn't know what to do.

I must admit it was really really fun filming with Minghan and Syuhada! And of course, with our casts (Aaron, Julia, Annabel and Wen Jun)!

After today, I told myself I MUST MAJOR IN VIDEO! Filming is actually so fun (even though it's tiring) but I'm enjoying every second of it!

Everyone went home around 12 - 1 am! We didn't even eat our dinner man!!!

Alright, it's 2:10 am and I am deadbeat. We will continue filming at 11 am in the morning before we meet Yoke Ee at 1 pm! IT'S OUR INTERIM 2 TOMORROW! (or rather TODAY)

Hopefully we can get all the scenes filmed by tomorrow! Yes I know our group is quite slow as others are already editing but it's okay! Guess we'll just have to sacrifice our weekends!

I am really excited and I can't wait to see our end product!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

no shooting.i am currently reading on after effects and finalcutpro. i have totally forgotten how to use it.reading it sort of refresh my memory little bit and also learn new stuff.the visuals in the book help me to see the steps better.

we will continue shooting tmrw, highly aftr H&C class.it will be indoor scene so the time does not really matter.

March 16, 2009

Today we started production. Cheryl got her friends, Aaron and Julia to act in our film as the couple. We got about 5-6 scenes done and a lot more to go. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, Aaron and Julia will not be free so Cheryl and I will be doing our Design History and Culture work. On Wednesday, we will be heading to Cheryl's place to film. It is going to be a fun experience there because the shots that will be taken there are funny. Consultation will be on Thursday and hopefully our filming would be done by then.

Sunday, March 8, 2009

I know we have been lacking of updates, so sorry about it. We'll find time to update the previous missing posts. We completely changed our final idea/solution and for the past week, we have been digging our brains and searching on the internet for inspirations because 3 of us ran out of ideas!

After so long, we finally finalized our script today. We will be sending it to Yoke Ee tonight and hopefully our idea gets approved then we can start filming!

Almost everyone has started filming/finished filming already. I feel that our group is really lacking behind, but it's okay! I believe we will still be able to film finish. The next 2 weeks is gonna be so tough and tiring because Ming Han and I still have another module, Design History & Culture. I guess we really need to manage our time well.

Alright, off to bed!

We did call sheet, timeline, mood board and arranged the storyboard.Did tiny changes to the script and combined them in the proposal including research.

Based on our research call sheet are imperative to organizing a film shoot. They help your crew and cast to be organized, on time and prepared, and help keep your production on schedule. Essentially, it is your plan for what is going to be shot on any given day.

1)Start with basic information, the date, what day of the shoot it is (such as Day 2 of 9) and where the location is. List your crew call time (example 7 a.m.) and the time you expect to begin shooting (example 8:30 a.m.).

2) Start with the first scene of the day. List the scene number, the numbers of the cast needed for that scene (See How to Breakdown a Script for Film Production Scheduling), and the cast call time.

3) Complete the above step for each scene to be shot that day.

4) Include additional crew information toward the bottom of the page, for example extras needed, stand-ins, etc.

tuesday, 24th feb 2009

Today was a fun day, we went around the school to take photographs for our storyboard. We were only able to take photographs indoors due to the rain but we got most of them. I feel that taking photographs for storyboard is good because drawing takes a lot of effort and I can't draw. It also gives us an accurate feel of how our shots will look like when we are filming. We will be taking outdoor shots for our storyboard tomorrow and do mood board.

Monday, February 23, 2009

Today was yet another consultation day. However, we learnt from Siew Cheng that writing a script isn't just writing a composition. It is supposed to be in a form of a dual column script. Initially, I was confused and found it quite complicating when Siew Cheng was explaining how to write an actual script. We finally realized the importance of research, and that we have not done enough research! So after class, we headed to one of the labs to do our research, and here's what our group found!

2 Column Shooting Script
A shooting script contains a very elaborate description of all shots, locations, character, action, sound and technical details of the film. Shooting script serves the following functions.

-The shooting script is a breakdown of all all camera placements and movements. All shots must have bolded shot descriptions:: ECU- extreme close up/ CU- close up / MCU- medium close up / LS- long shot or FS- full shot/ ELS- extreme long shot/ OTS- over the shoulder / XO- Cross-Shots-/ BEV- Bird’s Eye View/ 2S-FS - two shot full shot / WEV- Worms Eye View.

-Remember to include changes in camera angles and height in your descriptions as well.

-Every shot you chose should be motivated by the action and emotion in the script.

-Remember that your audience is looking for clues to understanding the details of your story.

-Remember WALLDO when visualizing your shots: (Wide, Angles, Linking shots, Low angles, Depth, Opposites)

-Any special effects or titles should also included in the shot descriptions.

-The shooting script also divides the film into separate locations. Therefore, all locations can be fixed and the possible shooting problems inherent in these locations can be foreseen.

-The script can be a guide in determining the exact length of the film by mentally timing out each shot.

-The script provides a break-down for the actors as to which shots and scenes they will be appearing in, when they will be needed during shooting.

-The shooting script includes the exact dialogue and sound you will hear at each precise moment of production.

Our final script would look something like this:

Sample Scene- In the drawing room of a house, a mother is pleading with the father. But the father remains stubborn. Their son is ease dropping on their conversations with a pistol in his hand.

Very detailed and specific. This will also make things much easier, simpler and not so complicated when doing our storyboard.

After a tiring and long day, we finally completed our script!

We will be starting our storyboarding tomorrow. (:

Today,we did a rough storyboard. So we can visualize better, before doing the script.Research on mood board.Ming Han entertained Cheryl and me with his cards tricks-which some will be included in the video.

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Today we had no lessons as it was consultation day.
We have all decided to use Ming Han's idea (the card tricks) for our final video. However, we would either be modifying certain parts or combining some of Syuhada/my ideas together with his.

The following days ahead are going to be stressful! We have get ready our storyboard, moodboard, timeline, proposal and research by next friday!!!

Time is running fast, we have not much time! So it's time to work!
Till then.

Feb 17 2009

Group 1, 2 and 5(us) presented our work individually today. I thought we all were good. I did not attend class yesterday so I don't know how the presentation would be like and what is required. Luckily everything went smoothly during presentation and I hope I did not stutter. We will be deciding who's idea we will be using today. I think we did pretty well today as half a class because Siew Cheng said we did better than the other half that presented yesterday. Cheers.

Friday, February 13, 2009

We had a short class today and Siew Cheng explained the P1 assignment to us. Xian Ming and I were cracking our heads as to what on earth is the design problem but today we found out that there is no design problem. I learned that the presentation on Monday/Tuesday is the same as our Council for Third Age exercise. We have to do a powerpoint presentation and proposal individually. Then Siew Cheng conducted individual consultation and I went off. There will be a mad rush I'm guessing.

-Ming Han

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

It was presentation day today! Learnt a lot of things from the other groups and I am indeed amazed by some of their brilliant ideas.

Siew Cheng said that many of us focused a lot on the detailed floor plan, location...etc. but actually, we should focus more on how we are going to make the youth and elderly want to come together to this particular event/place to bond. What will attract the youth? What will attract the elderly? Many of us tend to forget to take into consideration the feelings of the senior citizens and assumed that they will definitely be present at the event/place.

I felt quite satisfied with our group presentation. All our hard effort and work paid off! However, Siew Cheng commented that the way I presented today felt like I found this exercise boring. I guess I have to be more aware of the way I speak/present in future because it will affect my marks! And I definitely enjoyed this project with Ming Han and Syuhada! It was like a new experience for me to work with teammates from other classes.

Well done WHYWESAMEGROUP!

10/2/09- the day before presentation

We met up to finalise our work -(research,proposal and ppt).Found some new infos.Divide the slides for the presentation. Spent more than 6 hrs in the lab, luckily we were able to finish it.

Monday, February 9, 2009

Today Siew Cheng explained how to go about writing a design proposal to us and what are the steps to solve a design problem.

1. Design Problem
2. Design Statement
3. Target Audience
4. Analysis of research materials
5. Objectives
6. Strategies
7. Medium
8. Concept
9. Synopsis

Design Problem - for us to solve, and we must come up with a Design Statement.

Target audience - can be differentiated by age, gender and financial status and others which I won't mention.

Analysis of research materials - survey results with analysis.

Objectives - the goal we want to attain with this project.

Strategies - what steps to take in the programs to promote bonding between younger and older generation Singaporeans, what is the purpose of having the programs.

Medium - the center and its programs.

Concept - why is it a center and not something else, what are the functions of the center and explanation.

Synopsis - summary of concept of the center, what other programs that would be offered in the future if further funding is given, general introduction and ideas of the center, reinforcement of what we hope to achieve.

We did the base for our presentation and we will be meeting again on Tuesday to finalize our presentation.

Thursday, February 5, 2009

4th day

Today, Siew Cheng passed around 2 books (>60s Centre) containing innovative and creative ideas contributed by our very own students in TP. The main target audience is specially for the elderly.

Siew cheng also showed us two FYP videos today. Both videos are related to the bonding and connection between the youth and the elderly. We were supposed to compare both videos and decide which is the better one, in terms of quality, sound, colour, storyline...etc. This will help us to improve our observational skills too.

After that, we had consultation for our first exercise, the "Third Age".

Last but not least, we have to research on how to write a design proposal!

3rd Day

2nd Day

We discussed as a group about the steps in the design process and the role of a designer. My group and I came up with a few points about the role of a designer while Siew Cheng explained the steps in the design process. First we should have a design problem and a design statement that isn't too long, preferably one sentence. We should then do research on the problem and explore different solutions to it. We should also challenge the different solutions and find out which will work best for this particular design problem. We then validate the best solution and check to see if it works correctly, will it generate more problems, and what are the pros and cons of the solution. Siew Cheng also explained to us in detail what are we supposed to do for the Council for Third Age in Singapore exercise and P1 assignment as a lot of us are unsure of what is required.

Friday, January 2, 2009

I had my first lesson of MOI Project 1 today. Initially, all the MOI students had to listen to a talk by Mdm Wahidah in LT25 and we learnt about what is MOI Project 1 all about and what we are going to do in this module. To me, the ground rules are really strict, but as the lecturers have emphasized, it is beneficial to us and for our future (eg. internship or when we are in the working world). Our marks will be brought down by half a grade/one grade if we are late or absent, hence punctuality is very important.

We were not allowed to choose our group members, so all of us were supposed to draw lots and I got Ming Han and Syuhada as my group members! Hope that this journey with them would be an interesting and unforgettable one!

Anyway, the roster for our daily entries would be in the following order:
1. Cheryl
2. Ming Han
3. Syuhada

Bye!
